Super Standard
We proudly present this full-house renovation and extension in Walthamstow that reworks a compact Victorian terrace into a substantially larger family home. Through a 6m rear extension and a new loft conversion, the project nearly doubles the usable floor area, replacing a series of small, enclosed rooms with generous, light-filled living spaces while working within a modest budget.
Alongside the spatial transformation, the project included a comprehensive upgrade of the building fabric, with significant thermal improvements and new glazing throughout. The previously unused roof space has been converted into an additional floor containing a bedroom, bathroom and compact study carefully arranged within the roof slope to maximise head height, daylight and storage.
At ground floor level, the significantly expands the home while connecting it to the garden. The new open-plan kitchen forms the heart of the home, flowing seamlessly into a generous dining area that enjoys uninterrupted views of the newly landscaped garden and terrace.
The existing front reception room has been refurbished and can be opened to an adjoining guest bedroom through bifolding doors, allowing the spaces to function either independently or as part of a larger continuous living area. A small internal courtyard introduces daylight into the centre of the plan and establishes clear visual connections across the house
As with all our projects, we have focused on a refined material palette. Grey brickwork, a grey dormer and muted floor finishes are paired with anthracite framed glazing. These cooler tones are contrasted by the strategic use of warmer oak, as external dormer cladding, small details within the bathrooms and the banisters. Pops of vibrant colour were incorporated in response to the clients’ brief, including amber bathroom tiles and bold kitchen fronts.
Super Standard demonstrates how thoughtful design, material sensitivity, and careful planning can transform a tired property into a warm, spacious, and highly functional family home without compromising on budget or character.
